People (i.e. comic geeks) often bemoan the glut of comics that we experienced in the 90s. They complain of over-saturation and, the rise of extreme comics and gimmick covers. They point to this period as the downfall of the industry. Even as the #s show it was the most profitable time in comic history. It lead to the current state of every block buster movie being based on comics. There was also a lot of great indie work going on. It was a good time to be an artist or a writer. It was easier to get your work out there and on shelves. What set the industry back was exclusive distribution deals signed by Marvel and DC at the end of the 90s, but that’s another tale.
Now that the 90s babies have all grown up there seems to be a resurgence of the old days and along with the fashion trends of the Fresh Prince (of Bel-Air, duh), a few of our favorite 90s characters have been given new life. One of the ones we’re most excited about in the Monkee Haus is Evil Ernie. If you don’t know the character, look him up (it’s what the internet is for), and if you are as excited as us reblog the shit out of this Double E has returned!
